What is ADR

The ADR Agreement constitutes the "European Agreement for the Safety in the International Road Transport of Dangerous Goods".
It is the acronym (Accord European relative au
transport international des merchandises Dangereuses par Route) of the European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road. According to Article 2 of the said Agreement, the road transport of dangerous goods is permitted as long as it is subject to compliance with the provisions of its technical annexes.

The annexes of ADR include provisions that, among other things, concern the classification of goods, shipping procedures, requirements for the construction and control of packages, tanks, etc., conditions of transport, loading, unloading, management, requirements for crews and the vehicle.

The Agreement refers to the safe transportation of dangerous goods, like explosives, liquefied gases (for example propane, butane, etc.), flammable liquids (for example petrol, diesel oil, etc.), acids etc. and to the special requirements which have to fulfill the vehicles and their drivers.

The classes of dangerous goods according to ADR are:
Class 1.0: Explosive substances and articles

Class 2.0: Gases

Class 3.0: Flammable liquids

Class 4.1: Flammable solids, self
-reactive substances and solid desensitized explosives
Class 4.2: Substances with the possibility of spontaneous
combustion
Class 4.3: Substances that emit flammable gases in contact with water

Class 5.1: Oxidizing substances

Class 5.2: Organic peroxides

Class 6.1: Toxic substances
Class 6.2: Contaminants

Class 7.0: Radioactive materials

Class 8.0: Corrosive substanc
